The Project – Underfloor Heating and Screed

Asset Energy was appointed to design and install a full ground floor underfloor heating system within a new build residential property in North Wales.

The brief was clear:
Deliver an energy-efficient heating solution designed to operate at low flow temperatures, future-proofed for heat pump integration and optimised for long-term performance.

System Design & Layout

The underfloor heating system was carefully designed to ensure:

  • Even heat distribution across all living areas

  • Optimised pipe spacing for maximum efficiency

  • Balanced heating zones

  • Minimal heat loss at perimeter edges

  • Clean and accessible manifold positioning

Each circuit was calculated to maintain consistent output while operating at lower water temperatures — essential for high-efficiency systems and renewable heating integration.

Installation Process

1. Subfloor Preparation

  • Full DPM (damp proof membrane) installation

  • Perimeter expansion strip fitted throughout

  • Edge insulation installed to reduce thermal bridging

2. Pipe Installation

  • Precision-laid pipework with consistent spacing

  • Smooth bends to prevent flow restriction

  • Securely clipped and pressure tested prior to screed

The system remained under pressure during the screed pour to ensure integrity and identify any potential issues immediately.

3. Screed Application

  • Liquid screed applied evenly across all zones

  • Smooth, level finish achieved

  • Fully encapsulated pipework for optimal heat transfer

The finished surface provides excellent thermal conductivity and a stable base for final floor finishes.
